The Union County Development Board (UCDB) was established in 1982 for the sole purpose of and authority to promote industrial development in the county of Union, SC. A select group of business leaders was appointed to guide this purpose.Over time, the UCDB has evolved into a strategically focused team of professionals whose primary goal is to proactively create and support opportunities that will encourage new and existing companies to invest in Union County.
In July of 2009, a new structurewas approved marking a dramatic shift in the makeup of the UCDB. We are currently a progressive team of leaders with diverse backgrounds and expertise in areas that drive and impact economic development and growth.
Our success in recruiting and supporting such business sectors as Automotive Suppliers, Distribution, Biosciences, Energy, and Plastics demonstrates that our strategic focus is solid. We will aggressively continue down this path of success. In September of 2009, we launched the first Union County Development Board Marketing Plan which outlines strategies and tactics for prospecting new industry, retaining existing industry and improving communications within the county. While new industry recruitment is a primary goal; overall, the UCDB is the driver for growth across the county in all areas of economic development.
We boast strong relationships locally, regionally, and at the state level that give us a competitive advantage as we position our attributes internally and externally. The Union County Economic Development Leadership Modelwas created to provide a visual of key internal stakeholders who are responsible for the growth and development of Union County. Each circle in the model represents an intact group of individuals who are individually and collectively responsible for determining, owning and executing the future of Union County.
Monthly meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4pm. We are located in the heart of the City of Union at 207 South Herndon Street.
Professional development and education are a priority of the newly enhanced UCDB. The Institute, a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA), is a quarterly two-day program that educates local leaders and economic development supporters on current strategies and trends in community and economic development. Attendance at The Institute is mandatory for all UCDB members and staff, and focuses on Leadership and Communication Skills, Community Development & Tourism, Economic Development Today and Product Development & Transportation.
