 In an area of Milwaukee where books for youth are not readily available, the reading club provides the time, opportunity, and materials for young people to learn to love to read. Risen Savior provides community youth with eReaders on which they can download eBooks. Our children experience the joy of reading while they utilize this decade’s latest technology.
The program will improve the participants’ reading proficiency and test scores. Ultimately, these improvements will enhance the likelihood for their success in high school, college, and beyond.
The program is designed to be fun and educational. It determines student reading levels, supplies appropriate lists from which children can choose a book to download on their eReaders, and provides comprehension quizzes (taken via computer) from which teachers can determine and address the specific needs of each child.
Students will be rewarded for their successes with prizes. Perhaps their greatest immediate reward, however, will be an increased level of personal satisfaction and a feeling of achievement that comes as they reach higher reading levels.
